Till Fabian Weser

Conductor and Artistic Director

Till Fabian Weser is the »spiritus rector« and founder of the SOB, or (in quoting the press):
»He is more than just the conductor. And that´s plain to see. He is the company's father. That´s how much he cares about everyone.«

In 2005 Till Fabian Weser founded the concept of this workshop and turned it into an unique and special opportunity for orchestra music students and young singers – unique amongst the numerous workshops being offered and not only for singers and soon-to-be opera orchestra musicians. It also wrote a new and important chapter within Bamberg's opera and theatre history, which has a history-charged ancestor with E.T.A. Hoffmann, the name giver of the local theatre.

Biography

Till Fabian Weser was born in Bloomington, Indiana, USA in 1965. He completed his studies and attended courses in conducting, amongst others, with Carl St. Clair, Sir Roger Norrington, and Professor Wolfgang Schäfer as well as at the Donald Thulean Conducting Workshop in San Francisco. Moreover, he has worked as an assistant to Zoltán Peskó and Ingo Metzmacher.

Till Fabian Weser’s special artistic interests are the points of intersection of early music and contemporary music as well as jazz. In his – still only starting – career he can look back on many successful concerts on a national, German, as well as an international level, such as at the International Music Festival in Lucerne, at the Rheingau Music Festival, or in the “Tonhalle” in Düsseldorf. In March of 2002 he accepted an invitation by the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra and at short notice stood in for conductor John Axelrod. With a great response from both the audiences and the press he performed works by George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Ralph Towner. Since 2003 Till Fabian Weser has repeatedly conducted the German Chamber Academy in Neuss and released new impulses there. He leads special ensembles such as the Big Band of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Transit Orchestra, the ensemble bach, blech & blues, and he has already worked with leading interpreters of different styles like Sabine Meyer, Wayne Marshall, Kenny Wheeler, and Markus Stockhausen. Several composers of new music and jazz have composed works for Till Fabian Weser. CD and DVD productions have been released by BERLIN CLASSICS and DENON.

He has been a member of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra since 1994 and took over the artistic line of the Summer Opera Bamberg 2005.
